Frain Earns State Runner-Up Honor
Jason Frain became the second State Runner-up for Riverside High School and the 23rd State Place-winner since 1994.
Jason found some early momentum with a first round 11-2 major decision over Jacob Edmundson from Tri-County/Thornburg. Jason beat Eric Weber from Don Bosco 5-1 in the quarter-finals that set up a semi-final rematch with Reid Imerman from Guthrie Center. Imerman had beaten Frain three times this season, but Jason turned this match around with a 12-2 major decision. In the finals Jason was pinned by #1 rated Jeret Chiri from New London/WMU. Frain ended his season with a team leading 44 wins.
The rest of the Bulldog State Qualifiers never got any momentum going and each went out in two matches.
Sophomore Chad Obrecht lost 10-2 to the eventual 7th place winner Matt Haley of Corning and then was eliminated with a 4-2 loss to Colton Weber from Jesup. Chad ends the season with 24 wins.
Austin Taylor had a first round 10-0 loss to Matt Finch from HMS who placed 6th at 125#. Austin was then put out by Madison Sackett of North Linn 8-2. Taylor finished his senior campaign with 30 wins.
Jordan Newberg had an early lead on Cameron Costello from Durant but was pinned in the opening round. He was then eliminated by eventual 5th place winner Garrett Young from I-35. Jordan ends his senior career with 36 wins; 108 career wins and a three time State Qualifier.
Quinn Wilson dropped a 7-4 decision to two time State Champion Jordan Gacke from Central Lyon, then was put out of the tournament with a 10-7 loss to Kyle Kayser from Jesup. Quinn ends his sophomore season with 41 wins and a second trip to State.
